Mother Teresa Convent for Dying Destitute's,Coimbatore

If you wish to know the real meaning of contentment, or “Being Positive”, sharing and mutual love, then you should visit this old age home taken care by the most respectful and loving, nuns of Mother Teresa Convent. I have been there for more than five times. Our first “Dreams Alive: Be Human” visit was to this old age home only. 5 of us went there and came back with lot of changes in our perception. There are nearly 60 grandpa and grandma, all in the last phase of their life.

The grandma in the above photo is Gomathi. She is a retired teacher. She told me,“John, I’m counting my minutes. I never thought my life will end up like this”. She was also a light music singer and was so fond of kids. She is unmarried and told me that she don’t regret for not getting married or for not having bank balance but she worries for not having some trusted or loving ones to take care of her. She also told me that as long as she was healthy, she was able to manage many things. She told me that the most important treasure in life is health and to take care of that. She said she feel very happy in talking to me.
After all they need someone to listen to them and we are very happy to be that someone.”
Nearly 20 volunteers came for this visit. We made all the grandpa and grandma happy. We spend nearly 2 hours with them and gave few snacks to them. After that we had a small meeting and decided to organize a mega cultural program there on 23/7/2011 to make all the grandma and grandpa happy. We will write this in detail in the next blog. The Article below is shared by our volunteer Sabari.

When we stepped inside the convent, more than 15 old mothers were standing outside after their tea break.  They all gave a warm welcome to us. I can’t express the feeling whether I was totally afraid or happy or painful. For sometime I sat lonely with them, at that time the cleaning work has been going on. Some grand mothers were sitting outside, some sitting in the verandas and some in the backside; at that time our volunteers started sharing thoughts with them. Felix Anna was talking with an old mother and she replied that her both legs nerves hold, when she hold her leg for some hours she cant straight it just killing time in bed and by prayer she makes herself happy there she replied .Below is one of the grandma i met.
An old grandma named Maria in her 30,s

                                 in her 40,s

                                   now at 70
The same time I met an old mother named ranganagayaki, in her face I found every thing she came near to me and asked me from were are you, about my work, family, whether I married or not and she blessed me I never get this type of blessing because the words come not from mouth its from heart I feel that really. At the mean time John Anna came to me and introduced me an old mother at the next room named lousia mariam. She is from Kerala. The above 3 photos are her only. She was eating banana chips and she told me that the last time she had this was before 10 years.

At that time one old mother near to us sang a song for us. What a beautiful voice she had. She is from Chennai, Our volunteers recorded that & played it to her, at that time her eyes was full of tears then I decided that from our next visits onwards we should not only make them laugh but also we should make them cry because while crying they express all their hard feelings with us and we found that they feel better after that. I like to write more but I can’t express that feeling, when I write all the thing I loose my feeling I can’t do it because I love and like that feeling I want to keep it safe with me.

Elida Children Home for Boys:The Best orphanage we have ever seen

                                                                                                                        Posted by Suresh Kumar,
                                                                                                                        Saturday 3pm July 9th 2011.

It was Dreams Alive Be Human’s 1st visit to Elida Children Home for Boys.  We (15) volunteers went to the home. Our purpose of visit is to spread love & happiness and recognize each orphans talents. Few children were playing in the entrance, we stepped in with peace and met the person in charge Mr. Samuel, and he made the children to sit in a hall. After that, we mingled with the children and started interacting with them.

After spending little time, asking how is your studies? And which rank are you? We got motivated by them as everyone says I got 1st rank! I got 2nd & I got 3rd. This was the reply from most of them. It was a surprise that how this less privileged children got ranks like this, that too without any parental support and no tuitions. They have no one to look after their studies with keen interest as our parents and relatives do. Just imagine how they are.

We could see the discipline in them. The way they talk is so kind. We got amazed at how this could happen in an orphanage and we realized only after seeing a person called Mr. Stephen, MSW (24) he is the care taker of all the children. In fact, he is also grown up from the same orphanage. His passion for those children is so inspiring.  He says that, he was not at all heard a word of encouragement or even a sign of recognition for his talents (his drawing skill in school days). He expressed his gratitude for all the volunteers.

In that, one student named Anal, doing his 12th asked us “Anna can you bring Focus guide Physics, Chemistry for me?” we assured him saying that, we will get it for you by next week. He says he want to become a doctor in future. What an Attitude!

Finally, we called the children one by one in front of us and said good things about them and wished for their bright future. All are happy when they got the recognition. It was a very happy time we had in our life which we will cherish forever. Friends the thing is, we have everything but still we are underutilized. Think over. Kindly join us in our next week’s visit.

Lets help this hungry soul who can neither speak nor hear

The person in the above photo is Mr.John Alex who can neither speak nor hear.Last month he came to our office asking for a job.He has worked in Tirupur as Auto Cad Designer. We immediately called few consultancies in Coimbatore and arranged few interviews for him but they all are finding it difficult to get him a job since he cannot speak nor hear.In one of our "Dreams Alive Be human" visit to an orphanage near Peelamedu we met a person who is helping physically challenged people to get jobs.We introduced Mr.John Alex to that person and he promised us that he will get him a job.Myself and Suresh thought that Mr.John Alex would have got job by this time and he will be happy now but unfortunately it didn't happen so.
Today morning i saw him standing in front of our office and thought that he is waiting for someone. At 5pm today he came to our office asking for my student Suresh who helped him to attend interviews. Then only he told me that he was waiting for Suresh and he didn't have anything since morning. His wife who is also a physically challenged person has not had food for 2 days.He and his wife have no one to help them..not even a single soul nearby has asked them whether they had food or not.
He couldn't pay his room rent for two months and also the shop which he uses to buy groceries for account has stopped giving him items since he have to pay them 2000Rs.
Friends if u could help him get a job anywhere in Coimbatore it will be so helpful to him.He also requires 4000Rs to pay his debts.Friends we wish to make them happy by clearing their debts and also by getting him a job.Kindly do what is possible for u...

Elida’s Children Home for Girls

Dear friends,
Now I’m going to share with you one of the best moments of my life!!!

We, a group of 12 students from “Dreams Alive Training Institute” had been to “Elida’s Children Home for girls” near Sai Nagar in Coimbatore. It was indeed a great pleasure for us to spend our time with those kids whose parents were not blessed to live with them. They were around 30 in number and we were very much pleased to see them living for each other though there are lots of diversities among them. Friends, believe it or not, we must learn from them that “Love is the only glimpse we are permitted of eternity”, a famous saying of Helen Hayes.

First of all, when we reached there, we were given a very warm welcome. Then we distributed chocolates to them. John Felix, one of our seniors, Freska and Ram (our friends) shared their motivating personal stories with them. We conducted lots of programs for them. They danced well and made us also to dance with them. We conducted games for them and the winners were encouraged by distributing prizes. Everyone was given a chance to show up their individual talents.

Finally they thanked God for this wonderful moment by singing prayer songs. Together we made everyone in and around happy and probably this was one of the very few moments of cent percent usefulness in our life time.
